There are three underrated violin concertos that actually have to be performed and heard:

1. Mieczysław Karłowicz.
2. Julius Conus
3. Karl Goldmark

The final two was a lot better recognized however the era that performed them died off and the youthful gamers do not appear . Too unhealthy, as a result of they’re very worthwhile. All three are way more substantial than the trashy concertos of Paganini, Wieniawski, Viotti and others.

Piano concertos: as talked about, the Hyperion collection is astonishing in its depth. There have been some actual gems. For me, there are two concertos that must be within the repertoire and they need to have by no means left it: the 4th and fifth of Anton Rubinstein. Bombastic, vulgar…however oh, so thrilling and goosebump elevating.

For causes unknown I simply do not gravitate to concertos for different devices; neither did numerous composers. I will give them a pay attention, however concertos for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trombone, horn, double bass, viola do not do a lot for me. Concertos for cello abound, and there are some good ones that aren’t so well-known, comparable to those by Raff and Victor Herbert. The Gliere concerto for soprano and orchestra must be a lot better recognized; it is an exquisite work that does not overstay its welcome. I can not stand concertos for percussion, timpani, harmonica…
